Since I was a little girl, I have seen myself as a doctor, working on a hospital taking care of patients. I changed my mind and even though of becoming a dentist or a teacher but now I know for a fact that I want to become a Pediatrician. Combining together two of the things I like the most will make my perfect carreer. Pediatricians are qualified doctors who have undertaken postgraduate training to specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and care of children. Even though this career become challenging, seing a kid getting better is stimulating and rewarding. Pediatricians meet patients and parents to gather information and conduct examinations to identify health problems. They also order tests to aid diagnosis, analyze data and undertake consultation with other physicians. I will be working not only with kids but with their families and communication skills are a must.Listening skills are also vital, as is the willingness to learn from patients. Having compassion, resilience and a sense of humor is important. Open-mindedness as to what constitutes a family is critical. The rewards are that the work is compassionate and caring - and frequently fun. This career can be summarized as the taking care of kids from birth to adolescence focusing not just on physical health, but also the emotional and social.Wednesday, December 16, 2009

This is a big issue that we all face when we enter college and even in college when you have to complain about why they did not approve your application or why you have not received the money yet. It is the main issue why college kids drop out, just because they do not have sufficient money to cover their living expenses plus school. For me, it was tough. I applied since I was in high school, six months before graduation and still had difficulties. Every time I turned in a paper, something else was missing and the processing time of each paper is from four to six weeks. The waking ups extremely early, to waiting in line five, six and seven hours without an explanation was devastating. When the beginning of the semester was approaching I thought I was not going to be able to start and it was when I decided to ask the school for a short-term loan. I started school, everything was going good but no financial aid and the books had to be bought. After waiting and waiting, I went back to North Campus and talked to the lady and she told me everything was ready, to give her another week to have it deposited in my account. And that was it. I got my money, payed my loan and bought my books. It was very stress releasing when I heard that now financial aid was going to cover a whole year, so we do not have to apply every single semester. At least that is something we do not have to stress about anymore.

Finals
This is the time of the year that I hate the most. Many things are do and long study guides to review. Even though this has being a tough first semester for me I am happy and proud because I know I have done more than enough to try to get the best grades possible. I am only taking three exams since my humanities professor said I did not had to take the test because I had enough points to pass even if I failed the exam. I worked hard on that class so I really deserved a recognition. On my other classes I am struggling a little since I really wish to do well and get a good grade. The class I hate the most, DEP2000, has a very hard study guide and I do not know if I will be able to get all that information in that is why I have to work harder and study even though I do not feel like it. ENC1101 is not hard; I mean is all from the readings. I must say I have to go over them since I have forgotten some titles, but I am sure I will do fine. The class that I am less worried about is SLS1125 since the test is open book and the course itself is easy, everything is common sense. I am a little under stress but I am hoping to finish this semester with good grades.Tuesday, December 8, 2009
Next Semester Expectations.
I am very excited about next semester because I was able to choose the classes I wanted. Also because all my financial aid papers are ready and because I looked up the professors I will have and found out they are very nice. I have been a lucky person because since I entered I have being getting the best professors in Miami Dade which have helped me a lot. I have to admit that I was a little mad because I wanted to get professor Calderin for ENC1102 but I did not. I found his class extremely helpful and he was always there for me every time I had a question. Even though writing is not my thing, I was able to do all the essays and get a good grade while learning new strategies to improve my writing skills. The lectures were interesting and when the stories got hard, there was professor Calderin to help u7s out and clarify any questions we had. I hope my next professor is as good as he is and hopefully I will learn as much as I did in ENC1101.Tuesday, December 1, 2009
Are children smarter than adults?

I believe that parents try to teach their kids what they want them to learn. Now a days you see adults that aren't really adults, they just have the body but their minds are really immature.Parents do not want their children to not make the same errors that they did. By teaching children as much as the adults have learned eventually makes the children become smarter but not necessarily wiser than their parents or older people. Now a days you see that sometimes parents are immature and act like their kids little friend. This happens because you see teenagers having kids and getting married. . Over time, because of experiences, internet, video games and even TV, kids have become smarter and more mature than their parents. Because kids like to explore, they try to learn about everything which somehow makes them more advance than their parents. Society and adults are not really thinking about the dangers of this issue but we should be concerned and act mature enough in front of our kids and even watch what they do at all times.
IEP (Individualized Educational Plan)
I am a little concerned with an email I received from Kim, our academic advisor because it seems like I am missing the IEP. This stand for the Individualized Educational Plan which is basically the mapping of all the proper classes I need to take in order to graduate in the proper amount of time with the major I chose. I think is very nice to have this kinds of plans and appointments with people that really want to help so that you can save time and money. I personally appreciate the fact that she took her time to let me know what I was missing in order to give me a hand with it. I know people that take unnecessary classes just because they think it is required for their major but it really is not. Others take certain classes to get the money from financial aid or because their friends are on it and that is wrong. This plan allows students to know what it is exactly that they have to take, tu cut off time of being a college student. I am really excited to meet with my advisor to have planned out what courses I will take when, and that way I can estimate when I will be leaving Miami Dade College with my AA. This is all about saving time, money and preparing for the near future. Monday, November 30, 2009
Cinematypes
What the author does is describe her experiences with different kinds of people then describing how she feels with herself. Toth classifies her dates depending on what movie styles her dates like to watch, how they get to the movie theater, their behavior once in the movie theater and finally what happens when the movie is done. I laughed with this story because she was not pleased with any of the dates. Some of them were really cheap, other were so into the movie that they forgot she was there and others expressed no affection whatsoever. I believe that if you have a date that is somehow different from you something always happens that you end up not having so much fun. The best of all was the third guy. He was kind, treated her like a princess and paid for everything but guess what he had a girlfriend and that made it the worst one. The most important message of this reading was that you will always feel good with yourself no matter the circumstances. She describes, at the end, how she feels of accompanying herself to any place and how she can do what she wants without worrying about what others think of her. What is culture? Is is important?
In my opinion, culture is a very important part that all humans have which helps each of us define where do we come from and who were our ancestors. Culture is basically a system of knowledge that is shared by a large number of people. Culture refers to deposit of, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, religion, and spatial relations, concepts of the universe, and material objects and possessions acquired by a country or large group of people. It is the way of life of a group of people including the behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept. Culture is the sum of total of the learned behavior of a group of people that are generally considered to be the tradition of that people and are transmitted from generation to generation. I strongly believe that having a culture is an essential part of our lives because if we do not have one, we basically have no identity.Research Paper

I am in the process of finding the new information to tie it up with what I had already from essay number three. Like I said, my paper will be about abortion and I am pretty frustrated because there is a lot of information and I want to find something interesting to catch the reader's attention. I will not say that I changed my mind over this issue but I will say that I see the other point as a valid one because of everything they believe. I agree that even though it is a women's choice it is very cruel to kill a baby and at the end an abortion is worst than having the actual baby. On one of the articles I found on the school's database, I came across one that really catched my attention. It was basically talking about the effects after having the abortion and the actual procedure. It even talks about all the possibilities that there are to affect a mother's health over choosing this as an option. It goes further explaining that getting an abortion is traumatizing a person for the rest of their lives because believe it or not, that mother will always have in her mind what she did.

Whale Rider Movie Reaction
When I first heard the title of this movie and the fact that it was about ancient myths I thought it was going to be the most boring movie ever. I changed my mind after watching the first fifteen minutes of the movie because the plot was very well defined. The fact that Paikea was not the boy that Old Paka wanted to be leader made it interesting because throughout the movie you can see how much affection Pai felt for Koro. Even though he denied his granddaughter she always found a way to impress him and make him realize that even though she was a girl, she had the potential to become the next leader of the tribe. She breaks the rules and hides to listen to Koro's lessons about how to use the taiaha and what prayers to learn. She goes beyond and finds the whale tooth that none of the boys was able to find and at the end shows her grandfather that even though she was not a boy she had the heart of a leader. Her nanny and her uncle Rawiri do everything and help her achieve her goal, they even go against Old Paka. I like it because even though Paka hide his emotions you could see he loved her but he also loved his beliefs and could not go against them without divine proof. I learned from this movie that you can achieve anything as long as you put your heart and faith to it.

New Ideas

In my opinion, I believe that new ideas happen for a reason. New ideas come to us to solve problems, to change the way we see the world and to explain why things are the way they are. Ideas come to us after we brainstorm looking for solutions. They also appear from knowledge and for the human interest of finding out more things. New ideas go by hand with imagination since both allow you to expand your knowledge and to see the world in a different perspective. New ideas come to us to change the way we do certain things, for example when you say: “I have a better idea, why don’t we use a calculator to verify our result when we are done?.” That idea you just thought of, is basically improving the way you do the assignment looking at the advantages it has to do it this new way. In addition I must add that new ideas come from the necessity to create something such as a solution or an answer.

Lie Detector
I believe lying is bad but then we all lie about many things everyday. I read about a study that Robert Feldman, a psychology professor at the University of Massachusetts conducted with some students. He videotaped students talking to strangers then made those students recognize the things that were not true. At the end of his study he found that they said about three lies every ten minutes, and thought it was lower than he thought. He says that since lies have become part of us, we don't even realize when we lie. Human beings lie to avoid awkwardness or punishment, to please ourselves, to maintain relationships and please others. Everyone lies when they embellish stories to make them look more exciting and interesting. The best example is with Santa Claus. Why lie to your kid about it if you know is not true. I guess we do lie to kids not to break that fantasy they believe in but why lie to protect ourselves when we do something wrong. Even though many people agree and disagree that lying is a bad thing to do they still do it at some point of their lives. Marrying Absurd
I found this story funny and at the same time ridiculous. The author, Joan Didon basically explains how absurd is getting married in Las Vegas. He believes is more of a business than a beautiful thing to do. He explains that people over there get married for convenience or just for fun. Tell me that finding a sign in the middle of the dessert that says "GETTING MARRIED? Free License Information First Strip Exit." isn’t stupid. Or how about the other commercial signs saying “Our Photos Best Anywhere, Your Wedding on A Phonograph Record, Candlelight with Your Ceremony, Honeymoon Accommodations, Free Transportation from Your Motel to Courthouse to Chapel and Return to Motel, Religious or Civil Ceremonies, Dressing Rooms, Flowers, Rings, Announcements, Witnesses Available, and Ample Parking.” I remember that back in the days weddings were something that not everyone will do because it required love and commitment and you see people getting married and divorce from one month to the other. He says he has seen people drunk at midnight getting married like if it was a game. The ones issuing the license obviously don’t care, they are there to do their little fake ceremony and get money in return. I always saw matrimony as a special promise between to people that loved each other. A promise "To have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part." But never as a business or as a game as some of them believe it is.Beyond "Why Don't We Complain?"

I hate the fact that people are always complaining about certain problems they encounter yet they never complain about it. Maybe just because they are afraid to get in trouble or just because they know it will not solve the issue. I do complain about some things when I know they will get fixed but sometimes I don't even bother to do so because I know those are things that will take time to do. I complain when bad service is given at a restaurant, just because I pay to have someone be nice to me. I complain when people try to skip in lines, I mean if you want to get in first then wake up earlier and come in before. Some of those things I don't even bother is for example gas prices. I remember couple of years ago that with $20 my car would fill out completely and now it takes up to $35 to fill up. Who will I complain to? The owners who are making money out of us or the government who also makes its profits too? Another thing are constructions on main streets and highways. I hate it when they have to interrupt traffic at 7:00am or at 5:00pm to fix the streets. Come on, why don't they do it at night when there is no or little traffic? The cost of rent now a days is unbelievable. You will not find a decent place for less than $850, in a good neighborhood. That is ridiculous but who are you going to complain to? the owners that need to pay their mortgage? Things now a day are not easy. Rent is high, gas prices is high, food is extremely expensive, books and classes overpriced etc... then who do we complain to if no one will do anything???
The Death of the Moth by: Virginia Woolf
Even though this story was a little bit confusing and hard to understand, it became easier when I read it the second time. In her essay, Virginia Woolf is trying to make us see smaller things as precious part of our lives. She desires that human beings know that life is beautiful but it is also a struggle. She encourages each of us to fight for whatever we want in life without giving up. She portrays all this messages through her story with the moth, who struggled and encountered many boundaries in a windowpane but never gave up. In her case, she found out that life was precious just by looking at the little moth trying to make his way trough. She explains that at one point she felt pity for him but then once the moth was settle she completely forgot about him and it was when she noticed that the moth was almost dying. The ultimate message of her story is that death is part of the cycle of life and that no matter how many attempts we make, death will always find its way. I really like her story because sometimes humans don't appreciate what they have and we should be able to appreciate and respect everyone no matter the size. Her message was very strong but I loved the way she put together the story to come up with it. Friday, August 28, 2009
Me and Her
The other one is the one called Yemyle who is now in the United States but never really left Cuba. She is the one who goes straight to Sedanos when I really want to go to Winn-Dixie. She is the one who dances salsa when I listen to hip hop. Sometimes I cannot control her and she takes over and then I get loud, Cuban loud. I would much rather like to vacation in Bahamas but she only wants to visit Varadero. When I’m hungry and I’m heading to Burger King I somehow end up in Pollo Tropical eating rice and black beans with pork chops and yucca. I save money to go to a Whitney Houston concert and Yemyle “la cubanita” spends her money in Willy Chirino’s concerts. I love American Idol but I don’t get to watch it a lot because Yemyle is always changing the channel to Sabado Gigante. I will always have a little cubanita ending and no matter how much English I speak or how many places I travel I will never forget where I was born and where I grew up. I will always live in my own version of “Que Pasa Usa” juggling my Cuban side with the American side.
